How long is the Fes to Merzouga tour?

This private tour runs 3 days and 2 nights. The drive from Fes to Merzouga is covered in a single day (around 7 to 8 hours with stops), followed by the desert camp overnight, and a two-day return route toward Marrakech via the Dades Valley and Todra Gorge — or back to Fes, if preferred.

Route and stops

Unlike the Marrakech routes, this tour crosses the Middle Atlas rather than the High Atlas on the way out, passing through Ifrane — often compared to an alpine town for its architecture — and the cedar forests near Azrou, before joining the Ziz Valley road south toward Merzouga.

Ending in Marrakech or back in Fes

Because Fes and Marrakech are both common entry or exit points for a Morocco trip, this tour is usually booked as a one-way route between the two, using the desert as the link rather than a there-and-back trip. Travelers who need to return to Fes — for a flight out of Fes-Saïss Airport, for example — can request the same tour as a round trip instead.

Tour Highlights

  • Cross the Middle Atlas via Ifrane and Azrou's cedar forests
  • Stop at the Ziz Gorges and the Legionnaires' Viewpoint
  • Camel trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes at sunset
  • Overnight in a desert camp under the stars
  • Continue onward to Marrakech via the Dades Valley and Todra Gorge, or return to Fes on request

It can do either. Most travelers use this route to move between the two cities, ending in Marrakech via the Dades Valley and Todra Gorge, but a round trip back to Fes can be arranged instead.

How long does it take to get from Fes to Merzouga?
