How long is the 6-day Marrakech to Fes desert tour?
This private tour runs 6 days and 5 nights, starting in Marrakech and ending in Fes. It builds on our 5-day version by adding a full day exploring the Merzouga region beyond the dune camp, plus a guided day in the Fes medina before the tour ends.
More than a drive-through at both ends
Our shorter Marrakech-to-Fes tours treat Merzouga as an overnight stop and Fes as a drop-off point. This version gives both places genuine attention instead: a full day around Merzouga visiting nomad families and the Gnaoua village of Khamlia, and a full guided day through the Fes medina rather than arriving and being left to find your own way.
Route and stops
The route follows the same core stops as our shorter versions — the Tizi n’Tichka pass, Ait Ben Haddou, Ouarzazate, the Dades Valley, the Todra Gorge, and the Middle Atlas — with two additions: a dedicated Merzouga exploration day, and a guided medina walk in Fes on the final afternoon instead of a simple drop-off.
Handling six days on the road
Six days of near-daily travel is more tiring than it looks on paper, even with a private driver handling the logistics. The Merzouga exploration day is placed deliberately in the middle of the route, giving the trip a slower, more local-feeling stretch before the final push north through the Middle Atlas to Fes.
Who this itinerary suits
This is the version we suggest for travelers who want the full experience at both ends of the trip — real time in the Merzouga desert region, not just a dune camp overnight, and a proper first look at Fes rather than being dropped off to explore alone. If you’d rather keep the trip shorter and skip either addition, our 3-, 4- and 5-day Marrakech-to-Fes tours cover the same core route.
