The Ourika Valley is one of the closest green escapes from Marrakech, following the Ourika River up into the High Atlas foothills. Berber villages, terraced fields and small roadside stalls selling local produce line the route as it gains altitude and the air noticeably cools, a contrast that’s part of the appeal for travelers based in the heat of Marrakech’s Medina.
At the head of the accessible road, the village of Setti Fatma is the starting point for a walk to a series of waterfalls set into the rock above the village. The first and most visited fall is reached by a short, moderate path; further pools higher up require steeper scrambling and more time, and are typically optional depending on group fitness and available time.
As one of the shorter and easier day trips from Marrakech, the Ourika Valley is a common half-day or full-day addition for travelers who want mountain scenery without the longer drive to Imlil or the commitment of a Toubkal hike.
