How Many Days Do You Need in Morocco?

Written by ToursWithinMorocco Team

The right length for a Morocco trip depends more on what you want to cover than on any fixed rule, but a few common itinerary shapes give a useful starting point.

5 to 6 days: Marrakech and the Sahara Desert

This is enough time for 2 days in Marrakech and a 3-day Sahara Desert tour to Merzouga, or a slightly longer 4-day desert tour with a single day in Marrakech on either side. It’s a focused trip rather than a full tour of the country, but it covers two of Morocco’s most requested experiences.

7 to 9 days: Add the coast or the mountains

With a week or slightly more, a day trip to Essaouira, the Ourika Valley, or a night in Imlil can be added around the Marrakech and desert core without feeling rushed.

10 to 14 days: A fuller circuit

Ten days or more allows a loop connecting Marrakech, the Sahara Desert, and either Fes (via the desert route) or the north (Chefchaouen, Tangier), rather than choosing one direction. This is a reasonable length for a first trip to Morocco that wants to avoid returning immediately.

More than 14 days

Longer trips allow slower travel — an extra day in each city, more time in the Atlas Mountains, or adding Essaouira and Agadir along the coast — rather than covering new ground, since Morocco’s main regions are reasonably well covered within a two-week circuit.

Matching your days to a route

Rather than starting from a number of days and fitting a route to it, it’s usually more useful to decide which regions matter most to you — cities, desert, mountains, coast — and build the day count around covering those without excessive back-and-forth driving. Multi-day tours like ours are built with this in mind: a 3 or 4-day Marrakech to Merzouga tour, for example, is timed so no single day involves more driving than necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 5 days enough for Morocco?

5 days is enough for a focused trip covering Marrakech and a short Sahara Desert tour, but not enough to also add Fes or the north without a very rushed schedule.

Is 10 days enough to see the highlights of Morocco?

Yes, 10 days is a comfortable length for Marrakech, a multi-day Sahara Desert tour, and either Fes or a coastal stop like Essaouira, without excessive travel days.
