It’s the most compact of our Casablanca routes that still reaches both Marrakech and the Sahara, which makes it a common choice for travelers with roughly a week of vacation once flight days are factored in.
Why start from Casablanca
Most Sahara Desert tours depart from Marrakech itself, which means travelers landing in Casablanca need to arrange a transfer before their tour even begins — typically a three-hour drive or a separate domestic flight, plus the cost and coordination that comes with booking it independently. This itinerary folds that transfer into the tour, with a stop at the Hassan II Mosque on the way, so the whole trip — airport to desert and back to Marrakech — runs as a single private booking with one driver and one point of contact throughout.
Route and stops
After the drive from Casablanca to Marrakech on day 1, the route follows the classic desert road south and east: the Tizi n’Tichka pass through the High Atlas, the kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, the Dades Valley, the Todra Gorge, and Merzouga for the Erg Chebbi dune camp, before retracing the same route back to Marrakech for departure. It’s an out-and-back route rather than a loop, which keeps the driving predictable but does mean you’ll pass through the Dades Valley and over the Tizi n’Tichka pass twice — once heading to the desert and once returning.
What the pace feels like
Of the five days, two involve long stretches in the vehicle (days 2 and 4, each five to six hours with stops), while days 1, 3, and 5 are shorter or include free time.
