The Ouzoud Waterfalls, near the village of Tanaghmeilt in the Grand Atlas foothills, drop around 110 meters over a series of tiers cut into red rock — the tallest falls in Morocco and among the most visited natural sites within reach of Marrakech. Olive groves line the plateau above the falls, and paths along the gorge rim lead down toward the pools at the base.
The walk down is moderately steep but manageable for most visitors, and small boats operate at the bottom, ferrying visitors close enough to the main cascade to feel the spray. Barbary macaques, one of the few wild monkey populations in North Africa, are commonly seen along the trails, though visitors are generally advised not to feed them.
Given the distance from Marrakech — about 2.5 to 3 hours each way — a visit to Ouzoud is typically arranged as a full-day round trip, often combined with lunch at one of the terraces overlooking the gorge before the drive back.
