Quad biking around Merzouga follows tracks across the stony desert (reg) that surrounds the Erg Chebbi dunes, with routes that skirt the base of the dunes rather than climbing directly onto the sand. It’s a faster-paced alternative or addition to a camel ride, and doesn’t require any prior experience.
The standard 1-hour option is usually timed for sunset, when the desert light is at its best, while a longer half-day route covers more ground and can include a stop at a Berber village or a viewpoint over the dunes. A local guide leads the group throughout and gives a short safety briefing before departure.
This activity works well paired with a camel ride and overnight desert camp as part of a multi-day tour, or booked on its own for travelers already staying in the Merzouga area.
